Fishing
Casual / income side-activity. Rod, bait, and where to find the fish that actually pay.
Fishing is one of the chillest activities on the server — buy a rod, find water, get paid. Income's modest but consistent and AFK-friendly.
Getting a rod
Buy at any bait & tackle shop (Paleto Bay docks, Vespucci Pier, Sandy Shores). The basic rod is cheap, the upgraded rods catch more reliably and unlock rare species.
| Rod | Cost | Catch quality |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $50 | Common only |
| Mid-tier | $250 | Common + some rare |
| Pro | $1,000 | All species |
You also need bait — sold by the same vendor. Different bait attracts different species; the vendor gives you a quick reference card.
Casting
- Stand within 3m of fishable water.
- Hold the rod (equip from inventory).
- Press E with rod equipped — your character casts.
- Wait. A bite triggers a fishing minigame (timed click on a moving bar).
- Reel — successful = fish in inventory. Failed = bait lost.
Casting takes about 30–60 seconds per attempt depending on luck.
Species & sale prices
Rough guide — actual prices float with market demand.
| Fish | Where | Sale |
|---|---|---|
| Mackerel | Anywhere coastal | $25 |
| Tuna | Open ocean (Paleto / Sandy north coast) | $80 |
| Bass | Lakes (Alamo Sea) | $40 |
| Salmon | Rivers (Cassidy Creek) | $60 |
| Marlin | Open ocean, pro rod only | $500 |
| Shark | Open ocean, deep, pro rod only | $1,200 |
Sell at the bait & tackle shop's buy counter — they'll take any fish you bring in.
Boats
Some species only spawn in deep open water. A boat (rented from the marina or owned) lets you get out far enough. Hire a fishing boat at:
- Vespucci Marina
- Paleto Marina (closer to the marlin/shark spawn zones)
Boat rentals run $50/hour. You can fish from a boat at anchor — same casting flow.
Fish has a freshness timer in your inventory — about 30 minutes before quality starts dropping. Either sell straight away or stash on ice (a fishing boat's hold counts as ice).
Fishing licence (planned)
A licence requirement is in the works for "professional" volume — anyone selling more than ~50 fish a real-day will eventually need a $500 commercial licence at City Hall. Recreational players are unaffected.
