Roleplay Project is an adult-themed roleplay community. Where we have a reasonable suspicion that a user may be under 18, UK law requires us to verify your age before you continue. We use a regulated identity-verification partner, Didit, to do this quickly and securely. This check cannot be bypassed by staff.
You can also self-refer for verification at any time, even if we haven't asked.
If you are 18 or over and want to pre-clear your account, you can run the same check on yourself any time. It takes about two minutes, removes the risk of a future moderation flag interrupting your play, and means you will never see this prompt again. The result is permanent and cannot be triggered repeatedly.
Most of our players never see this prompt. We do not ask every account for ID. We trigger verification only when something has given us a reasonable suspicion that the account is held by a child, for example: chat content that reads as that of a minor, a report from another player or guardian, or a pattern flagged by our moderation team. In every other case nothing changes.
Where suspicion exists, we are required to act. The relevant UK law is summarised below. None of this is optional for us, and no member of staff has the ability to "skip" a verification once it has been triggered.
If you are asked to verify, the flow is short and runs entirely in your browser.
When you next sign in to the User Control Panel, you'll see a verification notice instead of the dashboard. The in-game server will also stop you from playing until you complete it.
One click sends you to Didit's hosted verification page on their domain. We never see your ID document or biometric data ourselves.
You scan a government-issued ID document and complete a short liveness selfie. Didit's systems run the document, face-match and age checks.
Didit sends an approve / decline signal back to us. If approved, your account is unlocked immediately. If declined, your account remains locked and you'll see the next steps in the UCP.
Roleplay Project never receives or stores your ID document or biometric data. We store only enough to know whether your account is in good standing. Didit stores the underlying data under their own privacy policy.
We store: the verification session ID, the date it was completed, and whether the decision was approve or decline. We do not store your name, date of birth, ID number, photo, or any document data.
Retained for the lifetime of your Roleplay Project account and afterwards in line with our Privacy Policy, including post-deletion retention for fraud-prevention and safeguarding purposes.
Didit stores your ID-document scan, liveness selfie, and the underlying age and face-match results. They process this under their own retention schedule.
See the Didit Privacy Policy for full detail, including your rights to access, correct, or request deletion of that data directly with them.
No. Most accounts will never see this. We only ask where there is a reasonable suspicion that the account is held by someone under 18, or where a report or pattern requires us to check.
Roleplay Project is for adults. If verification confirms you are under 18, we will close your account in line with our terms. We will not retain biometric data about you longer than necessary.
No. There is no override anywhere in our admin tools. This was deliberately designed so we cannot bypass our own legal duty, and so no individual member of staff can be pressured into skipping it.
No. The document scan and liveness selfie are handled entirely on Didit's domain by Didit's systems. We receive only the final decision (approve or decline) and a reference ID.
You can retry. Didit allows multiple attempts. If you continue to have trouble, contact Didit's support directly using the links above — we cannot intervene in their flow on your behalf.
Our full Privacy Policy covers data retention, your rights under UK GDPR, and contact details for our Data Protection point of contact.
