From bike to supercar, and what it costs.

The vehicle economy on Roleplay Project covers dealerships, gas pumps, body shops, plates, insurance, mods, citations, rideshares, and the Metro. Catalog runs from $8,000 hatchbacks to $2.7m hypercars. Most of the money happens after the sticker price: fuel, monthly insurance, repairs, tickets, finance interest.

Step 1

Buying a vehicle

V1

Walk into a dealership, pick from the catalog

Dealerships are scattered around the city. The catalog ranges from $8,000 (entry-level economy) up to $2.7m (top-tier supercars). Pay in full from your bank or finance it (see Insurance & Finance below). The vehicle is registered to you on the spot and parked outside the dealer with a temporary plate.

Once you own it, the car lives in the world. You can store it in a garage; otherwise it stays parked where you left it. If you can't find it, use /findvehicle from a registered owner phone to get a GPS waypoint.

Step 2

Get a driving licence first

L1

Written test, then practical

You can drive without a licence, but if a cop stops you, that's a charge. Get tested at the DMV.

ClassWhat it coversWrittenPractical
Class CStandard cars and bikes$150$300
Class C - TaxiTaxi endorsement (Ryde driver)$150$300
Class C - TruckLight commercial / box trucks$150$300
Class A - CommercialHeavy commercial (trucking)$150$300

Fail the test, wait 24 hours, retake. The licence sits on your character profile and gets read by the MDC when an officer pulls you over.

Running costs

Fuel and car wash

F1

27 gas stations, prices float every 20 minutes

Pull up to a pump, run /fuel, choose a quantity. Prices fluctuate between $2.80 and $4.50/gallon on a 20-minute tick; the baseline is around $3.20 to $4.00. Premium pumps cost a touch more for performance fuel.

Running out of fuel mid-drive means a tow. Watch the dashboard gauge.

F2

Car wash: 6 locations, four packages

Run /wash at any wash bay. A dirty car looks bad, sets off your insurance company, and bumps the chance of citations from observant cops.

PackagePriceProtection
Basic$50None
Standard$1202 hours, 4x slower re-dirt
Premium$2504 hours
Deluxe$5006 hours, 8x slower re-dirt

Insurance and finance

I1

Insurance is rotated between providers

Run /insurance to see active plans. The lowest premium rotates between companies on a regular schedule. Criminal record adds a surcharge to your monthly. File a claim with /claim after a wreck and a tow truck gets dispatched to your last GPS ping.

Custom plates cost $250 from /plate. You can keep them across vehicles.

I2

Finance terms scale with credit score

If you don't want to pay full price up front, /finance at the dealer. Term lengths are 12, 24, or 36 months. Interest rate is set by your credit score (300 to 900 range). Better credit = lower rate.

Miss three monthly payments in a row and your car is repossessed. You lose what you've paid in. Credit score takes a real hit too. Set up reminders if you're juggling other bills.

Tuning

Mods at Los Santos Customs

M1

100+ modifications across body, engine, tuning, performance

Drive into any LS Customs and run /mechanic. Browse the catalog by category. Prices vary by car class: a turbo on a Cavalcade is cheaper than a turbo on a Pfister.

CategoryRangeEffect
Engine upgrade$5,000 to $25,000Top speed, acceleration
Brakes$3,000 to $12,000Stopping distance
Wheels$2,000 to $6,000Cosmetic + grip
Turbo$10,000+15% acceleration above 50 mph
Drift tuning$10,000 to $25,000Modified handling for tail-out driving
Body kits$2,000 to $30,000Cosmetic, no performance

Most mods are installed on the spot. Custom paint and decals save to the vehicle file.

Watch out

Speed cameras and fines

SC1

Cameras tick automatically, fines are real

Automated speed cameras are placed at known choke points. They check your speed against the local limit with a 2 mph tolerance. Anything over that is a citation, served to your phone with the camera ID and an optional photo.

mph overFineStatute
1 to 15 over$238VC §22350
16 to 25 over$367VC §22356
26 to 50 over$490VC §22356 (excess)
51 to 99 over$720VC §22356 (reckless)
100+ over$900Reckless driving

Run /fines to see unpaid tickets. /fine pay <id> settles one. /fine appeal <id> sends it to the courts for review. Unpaid fines pile up: enough of them and you get a bench warrant.

Short-term

Rentals

R1

8 rental locations, hourly rates with surge

Run /rental at any rental lot. Pay an upfront $200 deposit plus the first hour. Late return: $25/hour. Surge multiplier (1.0x to 2.5x) applies during peak demand.

TierPer hour

Standard$45
Premium$60
Luxury$75

Return the car clean and full of fuel for full deposit back. Dirty or empty: partial refund.

Rideshare and Metro

RS1

Two rideshare apps, one Metro line

Both Uber and Ryde live on your phone. They quote different rates: Uber is cheap and slow, Ryde is faster and pricier.

ServiceBase farePer unit distance
Uber (passenger)$3$0.50
Ryde (passenger)$8$3.00
Metro subway$5$2 per stop (11 stations)

Become a driver with /uberdriver or by registering as a Ryde driver on your phone. Either pays per ride; Ryde is the better hourly rate.

The Metro is the budget option. /metro at a station picks a destination and teleports you (with a short loading screen) to the platform there. 11 stations cover Downtown LS through Vinewood Hills out to the airport.

Side income
